Starting out with a great photograph by Christopher Shea it wasn’t hard to come up with a really nice design. I just let the type dance around the image picking up colors along the way.

The Intergalactic Nemesis Trilogy

The Intergalactic Nemesis Trilogy, posterThe Intergalactic Nemesis Trilogy, poster

This was a revival of the original Nemesis poster from back in 2000 which was printed offset with fluorescent blue and metallic silver spot colors. This Nemesis Trilogy poster was a digital print but I stuck with the 3-plate æsthetic and only used flat colors and a chunky halftone screen on the cyan background.

Static

Static, postcard backStatic, postcard back

Static was a very personal and intense performance. The production had a cast of one (!) and took place in a motel room with an audience of no more than 12 people. To help prepare people for this intimacy I used a great Sarah Bork Hamilton photograph of the actor laying on a bed, staring […]

Americamisfit

Ah! Another Dan Dietz play.  Now this was a crazy fun play. Here’s a line that was used to describe it: “Of Mice and Men meets Natural Born Killers meets your high school American History class taught by a Jerry Lee Lewis look-a-like.” I tried to translate that insane fun on the poster with a textbook-style […]

The Intergalactic Nemesis: Twin Infinity

Twin Infinity, posterTwin Infinity, poster

For this installment of the Nemesis series of productions the plot took us on a spy voyage to the Himalayas. I was inspied by 1960s-era spy movie graphics and typography and a great stock photo of a Tibetan mountain range which I tinted and cropped to make it a little more other-worldly.

Genghis Khan

This was the most ambitious production yet in SVT’s history. An original opera from Graham Reynolds and Jason Neulander with live orchestra and some of the coolest costumes ever. I was so inspired by the richness of the costumes I made them the main component in the poster design.

Death of a Cat

Death of a Cat, posterDeath of a Cat, poster

Starting with the Know Dog poster I realized that I had really enjoyed drawing the typography. (This trend will evolve into an informal SVT signature.) On this postcard I mixed some clumsily drawn Victorian initials, stately Garamond, and moody, almost ultraviolet-looking photographs that I shot of some particularly thorny vines on the side of my […]

Know Dog

Yup, that’s my mailbox in the photo. Well…mostly. there was a lot of text so I had to stretch the mailbox about an inch or two in Photoshop to make it all fit. The postcard has less text so that one didn’t need to be doctored. And yes, I’d be a complete turd if I […]
